Rare Photograph of Wooden Chariot of Mahesh -Srirampur. The last three chariots of Mahesh were built by the Bose family of Shyambazar (the family into which Sri Ramakrishna’s ardent devotee Balaram Bose was born). The last two wooden chariots were destroyed in fire and eventually the iron chariot was built which can still be seen today. This is the earlier burnt wooden chariot. The woodwork is distinctly visible and the eaves of the roof of the chariot is also seen to be beautifully carved. However, the iron chariot hardly matches the earlier wooden chariot in beauty!

শ্রীরামপুর মাহেশের পূর্বের কাঠের রথের দুর্লভ আলোকচিত্র। শ্যামবাজারের বসু পরিবারের (শ্রী রামকৃষ্ণ পার্ষদ বলরাম বসুর যে পরিবারে জন্ম) দ্বারা মাহেশের শেষ তিনটি রথ নির্মাণ করে দেওয়া হয়। শেষ দুটি কাঠের রথ আগুনে পুড়ে যাওয়ায় পরিশেষে লোহার রথ নির্মিত হয় যেটা আজও দেখা যায়। এটা সেই আগের পুড়ে যাওয়া কাঠের রথ। রথের গায়ে কাঠ খোদাইয়ের কারুকার্য দেখা যাচ্ছে এবং রথের ছাদের কার্নিশ চালার মতন ব্যাকানো ছিল সেটাও দেখা যাচ্ছে। লোহার রথে এই সৌন্দর্যের সিকি ভাগও আসে নি !
Srirampur-Mahesh
The temple of Jagannath of this place is very well-known. During SnanYatra (bathing festival on the auspicious birthday of Jagannath the Master of the universe) and Rath-Yatra (chariot festival of Lord Jagannath), large number of people come here. During his stay in Dakshineswar, Sri Sri Thakur, accompanied by his devotees, came here many times for Devdarshan (auspicious sight of the idol of deities), especially on the occasion of Rath-Yatra. It is mentioned in Sri Sri Ramakrishna-Punthi (a book by Akshay Kumar Sen in the narrative poem form on the life and teachings of Thakur Sri Ramakrishna), Sri Sri Thakur accompanied by Sevak (devotee attendant) Latu (Swami Adbhutananda), Manomohan Mitra and Surendranath Mitra’s brother Girindranath came here to the temple of Jagannath for Devdarshan. (auspicious sight).
শ্রীরামপুর-মাহেশ
এই স্থানের জগন্নাথদেবের মন্দির বিখ্যাত। স্নানযাত্রা ও রথযাত্রায় খুব ভিড় হয়। দক্ষিণেশ্বরে অবস্থানকালে শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর ভক্তসঙ্গে দেবদর্শনে বিশেষত রথযাত্রায় অনেকবার এখানে আসিয়াছিলেন। শ্রীশ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ পুঁথিতে উল্লেখ আছে একবার মনোমোহন মিত্র, সুরেন্দ্রনাথ মিত্রের ভ্রাতা গিরিন্দ্রনাথের সঙ্গে শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর সেবক লাটুসহ এখানে আসিয়া দেবদর্শন করেন।
