Nather Bagan (Nather Bagan Street, Beniatola)
Nather Bagan is located in the Sobhabazar region of North Kolkata. In 1852-1853, when Sri Ramakrishna (young Gadadhar) accompanied his elder brother Ramkumar Chattopadhyay to Calcutta for the first time, they lived in Nather Bagan for a while. Later, they left this temporary residence, and settled in the Jhamapukur region of North Calcutta (from 1852-1853 to May 1855). The place where they lived in Nather Bagan Street (Kolkata -5) does not exist anymore and hence unidentifiable.
After his arrival in Calcutta and while staying in Nather Bagan, young Gadadhar used to take bath in the Ganges. In his conversation with the devotees in Dakshineswar on 19th September, 1884, Thakur said:
“In my boyhood days, while bathing in the Ganges, I saw a boy with a gold ornament around his waist. During my state of divine intoxication I felt a desire to have a similar ornament myself. I was given one, but I couldn’t keep it on very long. When I put it on, I felt within my body the painful uprush of a current of air. It was because I had touched gold to my skin. I wore the ornament a few moments and then had to put it aside. Otherwise I should have had to tear it off.’ *

নাথের বাগান (নাথের বাগান স্ট্রীট, বেনিয়াটোলা)
উত্তর কলিকাতার শোভাবাজার অঞ্চলে অবস্থিত। ১৮৫২-১৮৫৩ সালে ১৭ বৎসরের কিশোর গদাধর যখন কামারপুকুর থেকে কলিকাতায় প্রথমবার তাঁর জ্যেষ্ঠ ভ্রাতা রামকুমার চট্টোপাধ্যায়ের সহিত পদার্পণ করিয়াছিলেন, তখন কিছুদিন তাঁরা অস্থায়ীভাবে এই নাথের বাগান স্ট্রীটে বাস করিয়াছিলেন। এরপর, এই নাথের বাগান স্ট্রীটের বাসস্থান ত্যাগ করিয়া গদাধরের জ্যেষ্ঠ ভ্রাতা রামকুমার তাঁকে লইয়া উত্তর কলিকাতার ঝামাপুকুর অঞ্চলে ১৮৫২-১৮৫৩ থেকে ১৮৫৫ সালের মে মাস পর্যন্ত বসবাস করিয়াছিলেন। নাথের বাগান স্ট্রীটের (কলকাতা-৫) যে স্থানে তাঁরা বাস করিতেন, বর্তমানে সেই স্থানের কোন অস্তিত্ব নাই।
তবে, শ্রীশ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ কথামৃতের দ্বাদশ পরিচ্ছেদে, ঠাকুর শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ দক্ষিণেশ্বরে তাঁর নিজ ঘরে ভক্তদের সহিত তাঁর জীবনের পূর্বকথাপ্রসঙ্গে ছেলেবেলায় প্রথম কলিকাতায় আসিয়া নাথের বাগানে থাকাকালীন তাঁহার গঙ্গাস্নানের কথা উল্লেখ করিয়াছেন। শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর ওইদিন (১৯শে সেপ্টেম্বর, ১৮৮৪) তাঁর শ্রীমুখে কহিতেছেন: “ছেলেবেলা গঙ্গা নাইবার সময়, তখন নাথের বাগানে, একটি ছেলের কোমরে সোনার গোট দেখেছিলাম। এই অবস্থার পর সেই গোট পরতে সাধ হল। তা বেশিক্ষণ রাখবার জো নাই, গোট পরে ভিতর দিয়ে সিড়সিড় করে উপরে বায়ু উঠতে লাগল-সোনা গায়ে ঠেকেছে কি না? একটু রেখেই খুলে ফেলতে হল। তা না হলে ছিঁড়ে ফেলতে হবে।” * * পৃষ্ঠা ৫৪৮, ‘শ্রীশ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ কথামৃত’ (প্রথম সংস্করণ [অখন্ড], ৩৪তম পুনর্মুদ্রণ, মাঘ ১৪১৮, ফেব্রুয়ারি ২০১২)
