Simulia —— (Narendranath Dutta’s House – Swami Vivekananda’s Purvashram, now ‘Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre’)
Swami Vivekananda’s ancestral house is in Simulia region of North Kolkata. Sri Ramakrishna, occasionally, visited this ‘pre-monastic residence’ of Narendranath to inquire about him. As per the writings of Sri Mahendranath Dutta (Swami Vivekananda’s younger brother), Sri Ramakrishna never entered into this house. However, according to Latu Maharaj (Swami Adbhutananda) and Master Mahasaya (Sri M – the author of Kathamrita), Sri Ramakrishna had visited Narendra’s house and Latu Maharaj accompanied him.
On the occasion of birth centenary of Swami Vivekananda, Ramakrishna Mission started legal proceedings in 1962 to acquire the sacred birthplace of Swami Vivekananda and it took more than three long decades to overcome the various legal complications associated with this ancestral place. It was only in the year 1999, when Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math could get possession of Swamiji’s ancestral home. On 26th September 2004, a branch centre of Ramakrishna Mission by the name ‘Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre’ was started at the sacred birthplace. Presently, this branch centre of Ramakrishna Mission has a museum, a research centre, library, English Learning Centre, Computer Training Centre and Charitable Medical Centre.

Swamiji was born on a Monday the day of Bhagwan Shiva on 12th January 1863 after over a year his mother would offer Puja every Monday to Vireshwar Shiva in Atma Vireshwar Mandir in Varanasi through a relative living there and she herself would spend the day in Calcutta by observing austerities and spiritual practice.

উত্তর কলিকাতার সিমুলিয়া অঞ্চলে স্বামীজীর পূর্বাশ্রমের এই পৈতৃক বাড়িতে তাঁহাকে দেখিতে ও তাঁর খোঁজখবর লইতে শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর এখানে আসিতেন। স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের ভ্রাতা মহেন্দ্রনাথ দত্তের রচনা হইতে জানা যায় যে ঠাকুর শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ তাঁদের এই বাড়িতে কখনও প্রবেশ করেন নাই। কিন্তু লাটু মহারাজ ও মাস্টারমহাশয়ের মতে ঠাকুর যখন পূর্বাশ্রমের নরেন্দ্রনাথের বাড়ি আসিয়াছিলেন, তখন লাটু মহারাজ তাঁর সঙ্গে উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
১৯৬২ সালে স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের জন্ম শতবর্ষ হইতে দীর্ঘ তিন দশক বিভিন্ন আইনি জটিলতা অতিক্রম করিয়া রামকৃষ্ণ মিশন, বেলুড়মঠ স্বামীজীর এই পৈতৃক বাড়িটি ’৯০-র দশকের অন্তিম লগ্নে ১৯৯৯ সালে অধিগ্রহণ করিতে সক্ষম হয় এবং ২০০৪ সালের ২৬শে সেপ্টেম্বর স্বামী বিবেকানন্দের পৈতৃক নিবাসে ও তাঁর পবিত্র জন্মস্থানে রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনের একটি শাখা কেন্দ্র ‘রামকৃষ্ণ মিশন স্বামী বিবেকানন্দ’স্ অ্যানসেস্ট্রাল হাউজ্ অ্যান্ড কালচারাল সেন্টার’ স্থাপন করা হয়। স্বামীজীর পৈতৃক বাড়িতে রামকৃষ্ণ মিশনের এই শাখা কেন্দ্রে একটি সংগ্রহালয়, গবেষণাকেন্দ্র, গ্রন্থাগার, ইংরেজি শিক্ষাকেন্দ্র, কম্পিউটার প্রশিক্ষণকেন্দ্র ও দাতব্য চিকিৎসাকেন্দ্র রয়েছে।
