New house on the banks of the Ganges
For treatment of Thakur, devotees shifted him from Dakshineswar to stay in this rented one-storey house in Durgacharan Mukherjee Street in Bagbazar. Immediately after stepping into the dingy house, Thakur, being accustomed to the open air in the spacious garden, felt suffocated and declared that he would not be able to live there. In no time, he left the place and went walking to Balaram Basu’s house.

বাগবাজারে দুর্গাচরণ মুখার্জী স্ট্রীটের এই একতলা ভাড়া বাড়িতে শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুরের চিকিৎসার জন্য দক্ষিণেশ্বর হইতে ভক্তগণ তাঁহাকে লইয়া আসেন। কিন্তু প্রশস্ত উদ্যানের মুক্ত বায়ুতে থাকিতে অভ্যস্ত ঠাকুর ওই স্বল্প পরিসর বাটীতে প্রবেশ করিয়াই ওই স্থানে বাস করিতে পারিবেন না বলিয়া তৎক্ষণাৎ পদব্রজে বলরাম বসুর ভবনে চলিয়া যান।
