Captain Vishwanath Upadhyay’s House

On several occasions, Captain Vishwanath Upadhyay invited Sri Ramakrishna to his house at Shyampukur and served him with great devotion. Both Captain Vishwanath as well as his wife were great devotees of Sri Ramakrishna, and he often engaged in spiritual discussions with them. On 2nd April 1882, Sri Ramkrishna first visited the house of Prankrishna Mukhopadhyay (better known as ‘Mota Bamun’ [fat Brahmin] amongst Ramakrishna devotees) and from there he went to his Nepali devotee, Captain Vishwanath Upadhyay’s house, before proceeding to Keshab Chandra Sen’s house at Rajabajar. During spiritual discussions with his devotees at Dakshineshwar, Sri Ramakrishna used to speak very highly about Captain Vishwanath Upadhyay’s devotion to God when he spoke to the devotees on 19th September 1884 and 13th June 1885.*

কাপ্তেন বিশ্বনাথ উপাধ্যায় শ্যামপুকুর স্ট্রিটে তাঁহার বাড়িতে শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুরকে অনেকবার লইয়া গিয়া সেবা করিয়াছিলেন। স্বামী-স্ত্রী উভয়েই ভক্ত ছিলেন। তাঁহাদের নিকট ভগবৎ প্রসঙ্গ করিয়া শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর তাঁহাদের বিশেষ কৃপা করিয়াছিলেন। ২রা এপ্রিল ১৮৮২ তারিখে ঠাকুর শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ প্রথমে শ্যামপুকুর অঞ্চলে তাঁর ভক্ত ‘মোটা বামুন’ প্রাণকৃষ্ণ মুখোপাধ্যায়ের বাড়িতে শুভাগমন করিয়াছিলেন এবং রাজাবাজারে কেশব চন্দ্র সেনের বাড়িতে যাওয়ার পূর্বে, নিকটেই অবস্থিত তাঁর নেপালী ভক্ত ‘কাপ্তেন ’ বিশ্বনাথ উপাধ্যায়ের শ্যামপুকুর স্ট্রিটের এই বাড়িতে শুভাগমন করিয়াছিলেন। দক্ষিণেশ্বরে, ঠাকুর শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ পূর্বকথন প্রসঙ্গে ১৯শে সেপ্টেম্বর ১৮৮৪ ও ১৩ই জুন ১৮৮৫ তারিখে তাঁর ভক্তদের নিকট ‘কাপ্তেন’ ও তাঁর পরিবারের সেবার ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করিয়াছেন। *
