শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণদেবের পূতদেহ এই শ্মশানঘাটে ১৬-৮-১৮৮৬ তারিখে ভক্তবৃন্দ লইয়া গিয়া অগ্নিতে আহুতি প্রদান করেন। ওই স্থানটিতে একটি স্মারক মন্দির নির্মিত হইয়াছে। ইহার বর্তমান নাম — শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ মহাশ্মশান।

On the advice of the doctor, Sri Sri Thakur was shifted in December 1885 from Shyampukur Bati to this open and spacious garden house of Gopal Chandra Ghosh.

Mahim Chakraborty’s garden house was in Basak Bagan on the eastern side of the railway line of Gun and Shell Factory on Kashipur Road. Sri Sri Thakur visited this house. Akshay Kumar Sen, author of ‘Sri Sri Ramakrishna Punthi’ met Sri Ramakrishna for the first time in this house. There is no sign of this house now.

It is mentioned in Kathamrita that Sri Sri Thakur visited this garden house of Brahmo devotee Sri Beni Madhab Pal thrice ( 28th October 1882, 22nd April 1883 and 19th October 1884) on the occasion of Sinthi Brahmo Samaj festivals.
During those days of festivities, Thakur used to enter into Samadhi while singing Kirtan or describing glories of God to the Brahmo devotees.

এই মন্দির প্রায় ৩৫০ বৎসর পূর্বে নির্মিত। পৌরাণিক কাহিনীতে দেবী সতীর একটি অঙ্গুলি এখানে পড়িয়াছিল। ইহা হিন্দুদের একটি মহাতীর্থ। শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর এই মহাতীর্থে কয়েকবার মায়ের দর্শনে আসিয়াছিলেন। ২৯-১২-১৮৮৩ তারিখে এখানে আসার কথা কথামৃতে উল্লিখিত আছে। লীলাপ্রসঙ্গে — গুরুভাব উত্তরার্ধ ৩য় অধ্যায়ে আছে কালীঘাট তীর্থে শ্রীশ্রীজগদম্বাকে দর্শন করিয়া আনন্দিত হইয়াছিলেন। সে সময় সঙ্গী ভক্তদের মধ্যে একজনকে বলিয়াছিলেন ‘দেবস্থান তীর্থস্থান দর্শনাদি করে এসে সেই সব ভাব নিয়ে থাকতে হয়। জাবর কাটতে হয়, তা নইলে ওসব ঈশ্বরীয় ভাব প্রাণে দাঁড়াবে কেন?’

শিবনাথ শাস্ত্রী মহাশয়ের স্মৃতি কথায় আছে একবার তিনি দক্ষিণেশ্বরে আসিলে শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর তাঁহাকে চিড়িয়াখানার সিংহ দেখাইবার জন্য অনুরোধ করেন। “সিংহ জগজ্জননী দেবী দুর্গার বাহন” বলিতে বলিতে তাঁহার মধ্যে এক অতীনিদ্রয় অনুভূতি জাগ্রত হইল। সেদিন শাস্ত্রীমহাশয়ের জরুরী কাজ থাকায় নিজে যাইতে পারেন নাই। সুকিয়া স্ট্রীট পর্যন্ত শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুরকে গাড়িতে লইয়া আসিয়া নরেন্দ্রনাথের দায়িত্বে তাঁহাকে চিড়িয়াখানায় পাঠান। কথামৃতে ২৪-২-১৮৮৪ তারিখের বিবরণে আছে — ‘চিড়িয়াখানা দেখাতে লয়ে গিছলো। সিংহ দর্শন করেই আমি সমাধিস্থ হয়ে গেলাম। ঈশ্বরীয় বাহনকে দেখে ঈশ্বরীয় উদ্দীপন হলো। — তখন আর অন্য জানোয়ার কে দেখে। সিংহ দেখেই ফিরে এলাম।’ প্রায় চল্লিশ একর পরিমিত স্থানে এই চিড়িয়াখানাতে অনেক প্রকারের বন্য প্রাণীর সংগ্রহ আছে।

Sri Sri Thakur landed at Jagannath Ghat. It is mentioned in Sri-Ma-Darshan (15th volume). On 27th October 1882, Sri Sri Thakur boarded a steamer from Dakshineswar and cruised on the river Ganges with Keshab Chandra and other Brahmo devotees. Divine talks by Thakur during the cruise enriched all the devotees. In Kathamrita it has been mentioned that Thakur landed also at Koyla Ghat.
