Belur – Timber Yard of State of Nepal
According to Sri Mahendranath Gupta, author of Sri Sri Ramakrishna-Kathamrita, Sri Sri Thakur once visited this timber yard in Belur at the request of Kapten (affectionately addressed by Thakur Sri Ramakrishna) Vishwanath Upadhyaya. At that time, this warehouse for storing timber was located in the northside of the ground floor of the house adjacent to the one known as old Mathbari of Belur Math. It is mentioned in the 15th volume of Sri-Ma-Darshan. The senior monks of the monastery also came to know about this from Master Mahasaya who heard about it from Sri Sri Thakur himself.
Because of the timber warehouse nearby, the ghat is named Kathgola Ghat (popularly known as Belur Ghat) and the lane leading to the ghat is known as Kathgola Lane.
বেলুড় নেপাল রাজ্যের কাঠের গুদাম
শ্রীশ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ কথামৃতকার শ্রীমহেন্দ্রনাথ গুপ্ত বলিতেন শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর কাপ্তেন বিশ্বনাথ উপাধ্যায়ের অনুরোধে বেলুড়ে নেপালের কাঠের টালে (গুদাম), একবার আসিয়াছিলেন। তখন কাপ্তেনের এই কাঠের গুদাম ও গদী বর্তমান বেলুড় মঠের জমির উপর অবস্থিত পুরাতন মঠবাড়ি বলিয়া পরিচিত বাড়িটির সংলগ্ন উত্তরের একতলা অংশে ছিল। ইহা শ্রীম দর্শন – ১৫ তম খণ্ডে উল্লিখিত আছে। মঠের প্রাচীন সন্ন্যাসীবৃন্দও মাস্টারমহাশয়ের কাছে একথা শুনিয়াছিলেন। মাস্টারমহাশয় শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুরের নিজমুখে একথা শুনিয়াছিলেন।
কাঠের গোলা (গুদাম) নিকটবর্তী থাকায়, ঘাটটির নাম কাঠগোলা ঘাট (বেলুড় ঘাট নামে সমধিক পরিচিত) এবং রাস্তাটির নাম কাঠগোলা লেন।
Thakur Sri Ramakrishna sanctified the future premises of Belur Math by his divine footprints when he visited with devotee Vishwanath Upadhyaya, the timber yard (marked on the left side of the map ‘Belur Math – 1899’) of the State of Nepal which was then located in that premises.
The banana-grove mentioned by Ma and quoted below from page 190 of Bengali book ‘Sri Sri Mayer Katha,’ is shown in the map by a red dot on the right side.
“But I always used to see, as if, Thakur was living in that place across Ganga, in a house, where, at present, there is the Math, banana-grove etc.”
