Kali Temple
The nine-spires Kali temple has three levels. There are 4 in the lower part, 4 in the upper part and the main one in the middle is on the highest part of the temple – thus totally nine spires. The works on the spires and the temple walls are wonderful examples of craftsmanship and architecture. The presiding deity of the temple is Sri Sri Jagadishwari Kali, but she is better known as Ma Bhavatarini. Daily puja (worship) is performed here. Deity worship in this temple was done by Sri Ramakrishna for about three years. As he used to remain immersed in divine intoxication all the time, it was not possible for him to continue anymore the ritualistic puja. But he used to go to Mother’s temple regularly to offer humble pranam (reverential bowing or prostration) to Her. During the days of sadhana (spiritual practice), he used to pray to the Mother intensely and in the state of ecstasy serve Her in various ways like feeding, laying etc.
কালীমন্দির
নবচূড়াবিশিষ্ট কালীমন্দিরটির চূড়াগুলি তিনটি স্তরে আছে। মন্দির শীর্ষের নিচু অংশে ৪টি চূড়া, তাহার উপরের স্তরে ৪টি ও সর্ব্বোচ্চস্থানে মূল চূড়া — মোট নয়টি। চূড়া ও মন্দির গাত্রের শিল্পকাজসমূহ স্থাপত্যশিল্পের অপূর্ব নিদর্শন। মন্দিরের দেবীর নাম শ্রীশ্রীজগদীশ্বরী কালী, কিন্তু তিনি মা ভবতারিণী নামেই সমধিক পরিচিতা। এখানে নিত্য পূজা হয়। শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণ এই মন্দিরে প্রায় তিন বৎসর পূজা করেন। পরে দিব্যোন্মত্তায় বৈধীপূজা করা সম্ভব ছিল না। তবে নিত্যই মায়ের মন্দিরে গিয়া প্রণামাদি করিতেন। সাধনকালে ব্যাকুলভাবে মায়ের নিকট প্রার্থনা, ও দিব্যভাবে মাকে খাওয়ানো শোয়ানো প্রভৃতি বিভিন্নভাবে সেবা করিতেন।
