Panihati Chida Utsav (Dando Mahotsav)
Panihati is on the banks of the Ganges north of Dakshineswar. At the direction of Prabhu Nityananda, Vaishnav Raghunath Das started Chida Utsav or Chipped Rice Festival (Chida Utsava is celebrated to commemorate the meeting of Srila Raghunath Das Goswami with Sri Nityananda Prabhu for the first time in Panihati). It is celebrated on the thirteenth day of the bright moon in the month of Jyeshta (in May-June period of the year). It is also known as Dando Mahotsav or Festival of Punishment. Raghunatha Das Goswami was paying obeisance to Prabhu Nityananda from a distance. On being informed, Prabhu said “Raghunatha Das! You are hiding like a thief. Now I have caught hold of you. Come here. I shall punish you today” and that is how the festival came to be known as Dando Mahotsava. After Raghunath Das, Raghav Pandit, a resident of Panihati, started celebrating this festival and that is why it is also known as Raghav Pandit’s Chida Mahotsava. Later, it was the Sen family of Panihati who continued celebration of this 500 year old festival. Sri Sri Thakur attended this festival several times. পানিহাটী চিড়া উৎসব (দন্ড মহোৎসব)
দক্ষিণেশ্বরের উত্তরে গঙ্গাতীরে পানিহাটী। নিত্যানন্দ প্রভুর নির্দেশে বৈষ্ণব রঘুনাথ দাস এখানে জৈষ্ঠ মাসের শুক্লা ত্রয়োদশী তিথিতে এই চিড়া উৎসবের সূচনা। প্রভূ শ্রীনিত্যানন্দের নির্দেশে রঘুনাথ দাস এই উৎসবের প্রবর্তন করেন। ইহাকে দন্ড মহোৎসবও বলা হয়। প্রভু নিত্যানন্দকে যখন রঘুনাথ দাস দূর থেকে ভক্তিভরে প্রণাম করছিলেন, প্রভুকে একজন বললেন, রঘুনাথ আপনাকে প্রণতি নিবেদন করছে। তা শুনে নিত্যানন্দ প্রভু বললেন, ‘ওরে চোর, এতদিনে তুই দেখা দিলি। আয় আয় আমি তোকে দন্ড দেব।’ দন্ড মহোৎসব নামটির এই ইতিহাস। রঘুনাথ দাসের পর পানিহাটী নিবাসী রাঘব পণ্ডিত এই উৎসব করিতেন বলিয়া ইহাকে রাঘব পণ্ডিতের চিড়ার মহোৎসবও বলা হইয়া থাকে। পরবর্তী কালে পানিহাটীর সেন পরিবার এই ৫০০ বছরের পুরোনো উৎসব চালু রাখেন। শ্রীশ্রীঠাকুর কয়েকবার এই উৎসবে যোগদান করেন। কথামৃতে ১৮৮৩ সালের ১৮ই জুন ঠাকুর শ্রীরামকৃষ্ণের পানিহাটীতে চিড়া মহোৎসবে যোগদানের বিস্তৃত বিবরণ দেওয়া হইয়াছে।
