HolyTrio Footprints: A Virtual Pilgrimage

Places sanctified by footprints of Thakur Sri Ramakrishna, Ma Sarada Devi and Swami Vivekananda are the places of pilgrimage for their innumerable devotees, followers, admirers, academics and researchers around the world.

On 19th November 2017, a few devotees visited a number of such places in North Kolkata and experienced indescribable joy and bliss. Following Swamiji’s advise, they decided on that day itself to share with others their inexpressible feeling of elation:

“Does one feel happy to taste of a good thing all by himself ? One should share it with others.”
– Swami Vivekananda (page 203-204 – ‘Talks with Swami Vivekananda’ published by Advaita Ashrama, Seventh Reprint, April 2012)

After initial deliberation of choosing between publishing a book or creation of a website, it was decided finally to reach the sacred places associated with the Holy Trio through a website which anyone may access anytime from any corner of the world to make virtual pilgrimage to these places.

We get descriptions in Kathamrita of 188 places associated with Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna. The website is being launched with pictures of these places of pilgrimage with description in Bengali and English. It has been planned to add in the website subsequently short videos (1 to 3 minutes) of these places. Work on this plan has started in the last week of December 2020 and so far about 15 videos have been shot which have been added in the site.

Kamarpukur, the birthplace of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsadeva and the places where his childhood through adolescence was spent, is one of the great pilgrimage sites of the present age. It is located at the junction of Hooghly, Bankura and Medinipur districts. In March 1947, 45 bighas of land (approx.28 acres) including the ancestral residence of Sri Sri Thakur was acquired by the Ramakrishna Math & Mission for the purpose of preserving the same. The living quarters including the two-storied thatched hay roofed house and the living rooms made of clay walls have been preserved. In April 1947, Ramakrishna Math & Mission has started a branch center in Kamarpukur.

Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life – think of it, dream of it, live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success.

– Swami Vivekananda

Let me tell you how to love all equally. Do not demand anything of those you love. If you make demands, some will give you more and some less. In that case you will love more those who give you more and less those who give you less. Thus your love will not be the same for all. You will not be able to love all impartially.

– Sarada Devi

A man is truly free, even here in this embodied state, if he knows that God is the true agent and he by himself is powerless to do anything.

– Sri Ramakrishna
